I can move the bolt back & forth about 1/4" with my hand , I note that the firing pin does not move with the bolt. It will not take down & I cannot remove the lever because it has a blind pin. Now what ? Jun 11, 2023 #2Easy fix. Break down the receiver, pull the bolt and the firing pin is in plain view laying in a groove along the top of the bolt. Remove the old broken firing pin, clean the groove and put in a bit of lube. Then, lay in a new firing pin and reassemble. And go shooting!!!! Some times it will fire several shots OK but for the most part misfires are more often than not. Looking at the bases of the unfired rounds shows no sign of the firing pin striking.Very nice bolt from 1947 marlin 39a. No excuses.
As I now own 2 pre 1974 Marlin 39A, I am looking to buy a firing pin or 2 to add to my spare parts bin. Brownells list a pin, but it says post 1974, and the photo shows a difference at the business end with the size of the cut-outs. Idid the hammer strut modification and took about .030 off the rear face of the firing pin. Clipped 2 coils off the mainspring. It has helped. Still not 1" with the couple of different ammo I've tried. ,but a definite improvement. I can see a mark and indentation, but it's not enough to fire. Sometimes it happens three times in a row. I cycle the action by hand, ejecting the old round and a new round goes in.
